The Centrecom brand is associated with computer parts and the problem is that selling computer parts and notebooks is very different.
With parts the consumer’s need is usually already determined. “Downloaders need larger hard drives, gamers need more ram and faster CPUs and businesses are always looking for faster networking systems”, chirped Ramon Costello; Centrecom’s Web Sales Manager.
On the other hand, notebooks could not be compared on specifications and pricing alone. There is the issue of look and feel; and often the less-informed customer needs recommendations and advice. As a result, purchasing a notebook requires a significantly higher amount of research. Costello says, “Our aim is to put us in their research path. This way our customers can learn that we’re a market leader; we offer the best notebooks and have VERY competitive prices. SEO helps us build that brand association”.
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) was utilised to increase Centrecom’s exposure to customers looking for notebooks. “When we started this project, we were completely un-indexed by Google. You could not find our website if you searched the word ‘Notebooks’. And it was no wonder, we were up against 65 Million other web pages! We had even tried optimising (the website) ourselves with very little results.”
